Secrets of the Hand: The best style engagement ring for your hand

Choosing the right engagement ring is not only important in terms of the diamond specifications or ring design but also how the engagement ring will look on your hand. Not all engagement ring styles will suit all hands so it is important to take into consideration your partner’s finger and hand shape.

One of the biggest secrets is to consider the height of the setting of the center gemstone as we shall see below.

Large Fingers & Hands

If you have larger fingers avoid narrow bands as this can emphasize the thickness of the finger. If you have a higher budget, go for a larger center stone and a medium thickness band like our Kay collection. On the other hand, focus on the band on either side of the center stone, the band should be thicker and more detailed and intricate. Try our Infinity engagement rings collection or our Dancing Light Engagement ring collections

These collections have a wider band and the band is just as impressive and special as the center stone.

Boney Fingers

We recommend a three stone engagement ring for larger knuckles and boney fingers. A multiple stone engagement ring will balance out the finger and draw attention towards the ring. Fancy diamond shapes are an eye-catching design with 2 similar shape diamonds on either side of a different shape center diamond, an illusion will be created. We prefer to avoid setting the gemstone too high and the side stone should gradually rise up to compliment the center gemstone. We advise avoiding engagement rings with a thin band as this can accentuate the knuckles. Check out our Trilogy collection for a range of three stone engagement rings in all diamond shapes

Long Fingers

Almost all engagement rings will look good on long fingers, however settings where the diamonds are set higher will look better on long fingers as the ring will look more proportionate to the hand. The Kay collection is a great option for long fingers as the diamonds are set higher, try our Kay Pave or Compass Kay engagement ring for something more unique.

Petite Fingers & Hands

Smaller stones and simple designs go best with petite fingers and hands. Smaller stones standout the best on petite hands and fingers. Try a solitaire style engagement ring with a narrow band like our Instinct collection

Broader band engagement rings can look overwhelming on the finger and make the hand appear smaller. If you prefer a little more sparkle, try our 9 Stone Baby La Mer Eternity ring

To make the finger look longer we suggest an elongated diamond or gem stone shape in your engagement ring, like an Oval, Pear or Marquise shape. These diamond shapes trick the eye so that the finger look longer.

Average Hands

If you have average size hands you have the widest choice to go with any style engagement ring. If you prefer a more classic design go with a solitaire engagement ring. If you like the look of a larger diamond and more sparkle, try a halo engagement ring. If you prefer a more vintage style with intricate detail check out our Edwardian Engagement Ring Collection. Jack Friedman has engagement rings to suit all hand and finger types and if we don’t have what you’re looking for, you can design your own engagement ring. Check out our world-class engagement rings
