Don’t buy a diamond without a GIA (Gemological Institute of America certificate) or an EGL (European Gemological certificate), this certificate displays the independently graded specifics of the diamond such as clarity and any inclusion not seen to the human eye that may devalue the diamond. This will also guarantee the value of the diamond.

Don’t buy a diamond that appears to be too cheap. There is always a reason why a diamond would have a very low price, there is usually something wrong with the diamond that a non-diamond expert would not be able to see.
Do pay attention to your partner’s current jewellery preferences, for example, if all their existing jewellery is white metal then white gold or platinum would be the right choice. If most of their jewellery is gold then yellow gold or rose gold is best.
