Jack Friedman Winterdrive in Support of Hospice

Miss SA visited Jack Friedman jewellers in Eastgate shopping center in support of the Winter Warmer Drive helping Hospice Wits to continue with their essential care and support to the community. Howard Fevrier handed over 6 large boxes of much needed clothes.

Jack Friedman together with Miss SA, Ntandoyekosi Kunene are thrilled to join Hospice Wits in their ongoing appeal As a Non-Profit Organization that does all their own fundraising via events and ongoing appeals to generous Corporate and Individuals donors. We realize that they are constantly working on where their “Next Rand” will come from and due to an ever increasing limitation on Donor and Government funding an increase pressure is placed on them to be more creative and sophisticated in their ability to not only raise valuable funds but find new and valuable partners to make this happen.

As palliative care provider, Hospice Wits has a multi-disciplinary and holistic approach to palliative care. They love and care for individuals diagnosed with life-limiting illness, offer psychosocial support and guidance to our patients and their families. They welcome all in need of their services. No one is turned away regardless of age, race, religion or financial circumstances. HospiceWits serves the greater Johannesburg Metropolitan area including Soweto and has been in existence since 1979:

Jack Friedman Jewellers have been so blessed by the community. Howard Friedman (late Jack Friedman’s grandson and now CEO) quotes Winston Churchill in saying: “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give” and that he “would like to thank the community for all the memories they have shared and built with us over 3 generations since 1933”

Palesa Ring For Rolene Strauss Crown Birthday

Rolene Strauss, Miss South Africa 2014, a paragon of beauty meeting intelligence.

The Palesa crown that is adorning Rolene’s head this year was designed and manufactured by Jack Friedman Jewellers from platinum mined and supplied by Anglo American Platinum.

Rolene visited the bespoke Jack Friedman on the 22nd of April – the day she turned 22 years old which maked this her crown birthday. She got spoiled by Howard (CEO and grandson of Jack Friedman) with a 18ct rose gold and diamond ring and neckpiece from their Palesa Collection (Palesa meaning flower in TswanaSotho, one of South Africa’s 11 official languages)

The Palesa Collection comes with a unique promise of beauty, rarity and fiery diamonds from responsible sourcing.

Rolene also had a moment to the bespoke factory of Jack Friedman in Eastgate yesterday where she experienced the passion and precision of master craftsman at work and met up with the ladies that has made her dream of an extraodinary crown a reality. Jack Friedman was established in 1933 and is a third generation jeweler. A woman that receives a Jack Friedman design knows that she is truly loved and owns a treasure.

The team at Jack Friedman Jewellers wanted something that was both elegant and memorable. They decided to make the crown from platinum, one of the rarest elements in the earth’s crust, and synonymous with South Africa which accounts for 80 percent of world production. The precious metal in the Miss SA 2014 crown comes from Anglo American Platinum. Inspiration was taken from the natural beauty of indigenous South African flowers and traditional patterns to create the new simple and striking crown.

Oliver Ernest Green – 3 Time Plat Africa Award Winner

The theme for the 2013 entrees were “tales and fables” . Oliver says that “the first thing coming to mind when reading that were elves, pixies, wings and beautiful, magical flowers.”

The dome in the centre represents a well of the human imagination where dreams, fairy tales and the lands of faraway places unknown to man exist. From that an explosion of life – the known falls away, to bring the surreal of the dreamland to life. The grace and elegance of enchanting arum lilies that hug the face like magical flowers and the wings of little fairies that have a feeling for elfish ears.

Platinum with its everlasting and intense pure shine never letting go of the dream world once dreamt, always and eternally with you, till the end of time.

Oliver has been working at Jack Friedman for 4 years. In 2010 he was awarded 3rd place and won 1st place in 2012 and 2013 in the Plat Africa competition.

Howard Friedman, owner of Jack Friedman, saw his potential and encouraged him to take his talent to new heights. Part of his 2010 prize for winning 3rd place in Plat Africa was a trip to Tokyo which he said opened his eyes to the international jewellery trade. He decided to apply to the Creative Academy in Milan, Italy for the Master of Arts in design 2013, emphasis being luxury goods. Only 20 students are selected each year from around the world and ultimately Oliver has been selected to join the Academy in 2014.

The course starts early January and finishes end November. The course will consist of 7 months at the academy with lectures and seminars and 3 months internship at one of the Brands of the Richemont Group.
